Hi Claire ,big welcome from me too.
I downsized back in March from a large mature garden with a great variety of birds and wild-life, to a bungalow with a tiny garden 30 ft by 14 and a strip at the side around 30 ft by 7.I also have a busy main road out front now.
I'm afraid we made our new garden easy to maintain, so did use gravel etc. back in May and i wondered if i would ever have the pleasure of the birds again.
I am thrilled
We have a variety of at least 16 different birds coming in now and a female Sparrowhawk took out a Collared dove a metre from our front window .Would quickly add ,my OH seen it i would have fainted.
I bought a great feeding station and i use lots of sunflower hearts. My biggest number of visitors outside of Starlings are Goldfinches.
Good luck
