Loved seeing Nick Davies calling for cuckoo's! One aspect Im still not clear on is why, when the warblers are very astute in detecting intruder eggs and remove them from the nest (unless very good mimick eggs) they do not do the same with chick once hatched. Surely they must realise it is not their own-they do with many cuckoo eggs? And if they do not know it is not their own chick-how come? They notice eggs that are not a good match-the large chicks certainly are not a good match? |
