Good point Chris,
I have done a fair bit of research into it after reading your post yesterday, its not fully understood why the population is in decline, contributing factors may include polution, and global warming, also the elvers were and possibly still are caught in huge numbers. I find eels most fasinating. And will certainly leave them off the menu for the time being!
