I realise these can't be called 'cheap' but last year I won a pair of Swarovski SLC 15*56 plus booster (muliplies x2 single lens) They are wonderful, but they cost so much I'm scared to take 'em out. So I use my old battered Eschenbach Derby 6x-12x*30's. I'd say for rough work (leaving in the car, etc.) take a cheap pair out and for planned stuff a 'good' set. Army and navy surplus seem to have decent, well priced stuff these days and old ex-army 8*30s. Not to be sneered at. They are a bit on the heavy side but solid and cheap.
