I was thinking more along the lines of why is Uther Pendragon still alive and living with 'prince' Arthur when in the legend Uther died when Arthur was very young and Merlin took him into his care before giving him to Sir Hector to bring up with his own son Kit, serving as Kit's serf (sword in the stone moment). Ygraine was not originally Uther's wife as he had a bit of hanky panky with her in the guise of her real husband thanks to Merlin (so why is Merlin, and also Nimwe, younger than Arthur in the tv series), and thus Arthur was produced. Morgana, Arthur's half-sister was already about 10 when this happened. She turns into a nasty bit of work and gets knocked up by Arthur to produce his son Mordred who kills Arthur at the battle of Camlann, he in turn kills Mordred.
Cheers,
Adam
