Two cheaper tomes to consider are
Trees by Allen J. Coombes, published by Dorling Kindersley at £9.99
Collins Complete British Trees by Paul Sterry, pub. by Collins at £14.99

I picked up the latter, remaindered in The Works for £5.99 and favour it above the former for the quality of images.

Both have their strong points.
