I'll keep watching for development and gills etc - this shot is just emergent from beneath some newly laid flags, so that would explain some disfigurement too, fighting their way out!
When inexerienced, its always quite dificult unless you see a fully emerged specimen!

Ken,

Yes, there will scaling on the top when they are more mature, the species looks more likely to be A. gallica and not A. mellea but much the same except generally more robust its a Honey Fungus never the less.
