I still wonder though, how people survive say if they work in stables or on farms if rats are so terrible, then they must come in contact with them, all the time, that more people don't become seriously ill. The thought of a rat in the house though makes my flesh crawl. Mind you so would a big spider, so it isn't just rats. lol

It seems a bit rough that you have to pay £50.00 to the council, I would get them to verify that the rats originate from your property before paying, if I were in your situation.
