I just about remember that too + it was an old pre-decimal penny!
Have a season ticket now but haven't found time to visit since May.
Away from formal areas a good variety of wildlife. A lot of evidence of Badgers though not likely to see during the day + a roost of Brown Long-eared Bats.
Good for woodland birds with Tawny Owl, almost guarenteed Great-spotted + Green Woodpeckers, Nuthatch, Treecreeper, Stock Dove, Goldcrest + Coal Tits. Ring-necked Parakeets common.
Sparrowhawk + Kestrel regular with regular Hobby sightings though these will soon be gone. As winter approaches more wildfowl + worth checking the river with Great-crested Grebes, Herons, Teal, Gadwall + various gulls. Egyptian Geese resident in the grounds. From late October flocks of Redwing + often Siskin in larches or alders.
Should still be variety of butterflies such as Speckled Wood, Holly Blue, various vanessids as well as dragonflies such as Migrant Hawker + Common Darter.
Always a lot to see at Kew!
