Unusual Tree Growth

Weather today was overcast, poor light and hence had to use flash under the trees in a local wood.

I came across this tree which I thought was quite unusual.

You can see that the single trunk splits into two about 2' from the ground - not unusual. About 2' further up a third trunk has formed, bridging the two. The diameter of all three trunks is approx the same. All three trunks reach up 50=60' into the canopy of the wood.

My apologies for the residual noise in the background of the image and also the holly which partially obscures the trunk. I did not want to cut or otherwise disturb the holly for the sake of a photograph.
