I went on a bat walk in Lesnes Abbey Woods last week and although the rain kept most of the bats away it brought out the toads in large numbers. The place was heaving with them, adults and nippers. It was a lovely sight to see as I've heard that toads are in a worrying decline at the moment.
I decided to go back with a camera tonight and although it was much quieter on a dry night I still found a couple.
The first one headed off into the undergrowth straight away...
...but the second sat motionless on the path while I fired off a dozen shots. These were my favourites...
