Lizards in water

Yersterday, in Anglesey, I came across a lizard swimming about near the edge of a river. It seemed perfectly healthy. I assumed it had strayed there from the nearby sand dunes. A few metres on there was another one. Is this normal? I have never heard of water-loving lizards in Britain. But then, my knowledge of lizards is very scanty. The location was Aberfraw, just 200 metres from where the river meets the sea. In fact, the water would have been pretty salty I assume.
