I am just so excited and have to tell someone! I was very quietly standing by my pond this evening hoping to catch a glimpse of the baby moorhens, when a head popped up out of the ground, then a body and it was unmistakably an otter
I am completely gob-smacked.
I have never seen an otter before but had just been watching them on Springwatch - hope I was not hallucinating!
Our pond is well away from the house and is made by damming up a small trickle of a stream. The pond is quite large and up to about 4-5 feet deep. There are plenty of fish. I would never have dreamt that we had otters there.
I have now set up my stealthcam but because they are so low to the ground, I don't hold out too much hope of them setting off the motion detector. Unfortunately, my webcam will not transmit that far.
If I manage to get any pictures I will post them here.
I think I need a stiff drink. I am in a state of shock.
