Roe Deer and The magical walk story

Whilst walking my two dogs today we bumped into a female Rose deer. Something caught my eye about 15 maybe 20ft ahead,it looked like some kind of tree root, but i knew it couldnt be my mind only made sense of it once she had turned to face me

My weim the supposed hunting dog disturbed her but didnt even know she was there and just carried on ahead scouting the ground like a truffling pig! my Staffy was level with her and about 10ft from her,but had no clue what to do so just kept looking at the deer then back at me. The deer eventually went for it and lept away in stunning fashion, obviously i didnt take my camera with me but then i was in part of the woods that is quite popular so wasnt expecting to find anything like that!

Anyway it reminded me of another very similar encounter which i wrote about in another forum. I have copied in onto here so this post will be long but i hope you will enjoy x

A MAGICAL WALK by Corryne Pienaar

I was in the mood to explore today when i took Milo for his walk, i had already decided he would get a long walk as he had been couped up without being walked by Louis for two days, i was also planning to go to the woods that surrounded the one of the fields at the top of the lane so the soft ground would not cause him any problems.

After about 5 minutes we entered the familiar surroundings of the woods we had been in many times before. There was a freshly ploughed field to my right which we were going to follow the perimeter of, having never been that far before i had no idea where it would really take us.
We walked the well trodden path on the North of the field for about 15 minutes before entering the unknown territory of the east side of the field. The wood was deeper here and even though i could still see through the trees we stuck to the path of the ploughed field.
Something in the field caught my eye, Milo had his head down and hadnt noticed the huge male Pheasant scratching around, even when i pointed his head in the general direction he was still totally oblivious to the plump bird.

We carried on until we were forced further into the wood by a wall of thickets, we walked along a very old path, Oaks on our left, thickets on our right, until we found a path on our right which looked like it would take us back to the field. As we walked along the path i could see that it was not taking us back to the ploughed field but to a different field adjacent to it.
As we entered the field a huge Hare darted infront of us and back down into his burrow which drew my attention to another big pheasent stood in a clearing.Again Milo did not notice a thing, well with his nose to the ground the whole time why would he?
I cant explain why but it felt like we should not have been there, the field itself looked like it had been forgotten about for years, there was hardly any earth visible just acres of flint, we walked across it as quickly as we could reaching the woods on the south side of the ploughed field.

The woods seemed as untouched as the field, although the wood was obviously manmade with the trees in perfect lines, there was no path whatsoever, the ground was soft with layers of leaves which had fallen from the 60ft trees towering above us. I felt i needed to be quiet even though the birds were sounding their alarms at our presence and Milo was busying himself with exploring this new area "he" had discovered.
We had only walked about 20ft into the woods when a movement up ahead caught my attention, i stopped and remained as still as i could as 3 Roe deer lept from the woods into the field about 15ft infront of us! Milo was looking at me to see why i had stopped and had yet again missed out (Although he found their scent after and tried to follow them until he got scared for some uknown reason)
I stood there gobsmacked, i was only about a 20 minute walk, as the crow flies, from my back door and a ten minute drive to the centre of town, i felt so completely priviledged.

I carried on walking with a huge smile on my face, we had only managed to walk another couple of minutes when a flock of 100 plus Doves took off from the tree tops above us. The sound of their wings was so beautiful i thought this would surely produce a tear, it was there but resisted falling onto my cheek. This time Milo did realise there was something going on and we both just stared at the sky for a few moments before carryon our way home.

We left the woods about 5 minutes later and we were back in civilisation, back where Milo could find a Lucazade bottle and carry it home, back where we stood a high chance of meeting somebody else on our Journey.

When we arrived home we were greeted by little Freya, ears back tail wagging. We filled our bellies and then settled down on the sofa where we all fell asleep. I dreamt of the things i had just shared with my little boy and woke with the hope that il be able to have another day as good as today.
