for the same reason that hikers who walk long distances wear walking boots rather than wellies ie if you walk any distance in capped wellies they chaff dirty great sore patches on the side of your legs - my day job involves the maintenance of RoW not all of which are vehicle accesible so on a bad day i can wind up needing to walk 5 miles plus in my tectors

no - lace up boots are a must , i currently use doc toe tectors but get only about 6 months wear out of them before the stiching on the sole starts to degrade hence the desire to find a walking boot with steel caps
