It's a funny system, but I have come across it elsewhere.
Usually greeted with a muttered curse, rather like records that use the DAFOR scale and add in intermediate categories like "rather frequent".
(D=Dominant, A=Abundant, F=Frequent, O=Occasional, R=Rare). This a commonly used indication of vegetation composition.
