The vast majority of birds have no sense of smell so handling a chick shouldn't be a significant problem. When birds are ringed by the BTO the parents don't reject the chicks and have you ever smelt inside an owl nest. IT STINKS
so I'm sure they are glad their sense of smell is bad lol
