It might be feasible to take the drive apart and put the disk guts of the drive into a working drives body. I agree its virtually certain that this would be prohibitively expensive to have done but you could have a crack yourself - i mean if the drive is otherwise dead what have you got to lose (apart from your temper

pointers for doing this are to do it in as dust free environment as possible, to earth yourself to ensure you are not statically charged, and not to touch the disk parts with bare hands.
Ive done it once myself and the drive functioned (sort of) for a day before dying permanently but this gave me time to lift off and back up the important data.
