I don't know if all the ancient laws have now been cancelled but it was not so very long ago I read that it was still on the status books that all males reaching 14yrs (if I remember right) of age are obliged to learn the art of the long bow
can you imagine it today with all the o.t.t. health and safety rules. I was a real tomboy when I was young and lucky enough to live in the country not too far from where we do now, Robin Hood with Richard Green was one of the most popular telly programmes and we had homemade bows that we made from willow, we also made our own quiver and arrows , we used to play in a big wood which is a housing estate now
what with that and playing cowboys and indians I think the 'swat' team would have been very busy in our area if people were as keen to get in panic mode over toy weapons as they are today.
