Re: How to move my images?

Hi All,

Just to make sure: Let's not confuse these two:

- "Moving" from the Archive to the Gallery - which is not moving at all, never has been, but in fact re-uploading to the Gallery, keeping a duplicate in the Archive.

- "Moving" form one section of the Archive to another section within the Archive (form "unidentified" to "identified", from "insects" to "invertebrates" etc etc). This should be done by actually moving (not by re-uploading/duplicating), but is temporarily unavailable until some technical issues are resolved.

Personally I think it would be a very bad idea to start creating all sorts of duplicates within the Archive because we're too eager to store things in the right place - this will cause a major headache once the technical issues are resolved and we could get back to sorting out and cleaning up the archive.

IMHO, for the time being, a much better approach for images that should at one point be moved/reorganized within the archive would be the following:
  • Rename the image appropriately to something like: "Vernacular name etcetera - Scientific name" (the etc could be something like: juvenile, egg, pupa, larva, leaf, bark whatever)
  • Add ID information to the description
  • Add appropriate keywords
  • A link back to any forum-thread where the ID was given would be great!!

All of these are very useful even if the image is later moved to the "correct" section of the Archive and will make checking ID's and moving a lot easier. Also, these are just mandatory if the image should ever be easy to find by searching through the website's search function. In fact, if every image would consistently carry that sort of info, we probably wouldn't even need the categories, but that's not likely to happen soon, so the categories are a good idea anyway.

Please note that all of this is just my personal point of view, not WAB-policy (so feel free to make any mess the system allows to make )
Cheers! Arp
