| Re: Unidentified Fungi Forest of Dean Not a lot to go on but my first thoughts are Laccaria amethystina, based on colour and surface texture of the cap and stem. The fading of the colour in the specimens in the second photo would be typical.
It isn't the Cortinarius you suggest. A quick check of the spore colour would rule out Cortinarius, which would have rusty brown spores, as compared with white spores for Laccaria.
If you don't have the time or inclination to take a specimen back you can sometimes find a collection of spores on the gills or stem sufficient to give an indication of spore colour.
As ever, a photograph of the gills would have been helpful to narrow things down with more confidence.
