Re: Bird of the day!

My bird of the day is the Ring-necked Duck that has been a long stayer at Foxcote Reservoir, near Buckingham.

Unfortunately it took me over two hours to locate it, as it was hidden behind the waterside vegetation. Eventually it did show but even then it still was behind reeds.

I had to borrow a scope as mine has gone back to Swarovski again for repair. As good as this replacement scope is it can't handle bad light situations such as we have had today so the resulting digiscoped image is very poor (and taken through thick reeds) but at least you can see that it is a Drake Ring-necked Duck.

I was pleased with myself yesterday. I went to look at the Draycote Reservoir Gull roost just after 15:00. I was very surprised to find that no other birders were there so it was a bit daunting looking through thousands upon thousands of gulls spread over this huge reservoir. I was looking for Glaucous & Iceland Gulls. I couldn't locate an Iceland Gull but I did find two juvenile Glaucous Gulls. They had to be yesterdays birds of the day. No photo though as they were much too far away in bad light to get them.
