Badgers most certainly are not vermin as you put it - rats and mice are considered vermin.
Badgers are our largest carnivores and while it is unfortunate that they sometimes eat ground nesting birds you have to say that that is a natural part of their diet.
However, I did hear of people in Spain treating Robins as a delicacy and actually eating them - this I find abhorent - to eat a songbird is a crime against nature and people who do so are so are no better than bottom feeders in a pond who know no better
