Dormice in Cumbria

One of Britain’s most endangered mammals, the dormouse, is making a comeback in The Grizedale Forest in the Lake District.
Thanks to an ongoing habitat management programme by The Forestry Commission. Dormouse boxes were especially designed and installed two years ago to provide alternative nest sites and give the mice warmth and shelter in an attempt to increase numbers. Now three young and two adult dormice have been discovered. Experts hope to see the protected species re-establish itself in the area. Good news indeed!
