Mad Pete from Kent

Hi all. Quick introduction. As the title suggests, I'm mad Pete. You guessed the next bit....I'm from Kent. I am 40 yrs old and quite deffinately going through my mid-life crisis. It's not the normal type of male mid-life crisis. I'm not running off with a fit young floozy nor have I bought a BIG motorbike or fast car, and I haven't joined a gym in a desperate attempt to get back my physique as a 20 year old. What I have done is re-ignite my passion for the outdoors. In my youth I spent a lot of time out birdwatching. Yeah I know what you are thinking, but it wasn't "THAT" sort of bird watching! It was the feathered kind (well, in the main!) What has happened now (at 40 yrs, with growing family, contenment at work and newly employed wife) is that I have taken on board "all things in nature" out doors.
I have armed myself with books galore..mushrooms, trees, butterflies and my good old birds! I bought a long spotting scope and tripod, good set of bins, full wet weather Gortex kit...the whole kit and kaboodal! My wife is convinced that I have grown old before my time. I'm taking loads of pictures of fungi, moss, trees, insects and bringing home small samples of all and sudry! MY kids LOVE it though. I have always encouraged outdoory type stuff, and what makes me feel best of all IS KNOWING WHAT I'M LOOKING AT, and BEING ABLE TO NAME STUFF. This is where I hope this site will help. I'm good at my bird stuff, but I want to broarden my knowledge.

I do so hope that this site is as professional as it looks. It has a distinct resemblance to BirdForum - The Net's Largest Birding Community, Dedicated To Wild Birds and I am very much impressed with that site. I am going to become a right pain in the butt now because I will be uploading copious images and asking for ID's. I pray that people are gentle with me in my ignorance (and my dsylexia). I will look forward to helping others on this site (particularly with birds) and when my knowledge grows on other stuff.

I am interested in hooking up with others in the NORTH KENT area for walks and forays too. So don't be shy to mail me.

MAD PETE
