I don't live on Exmoor - but my parents had friends there. I spent a long time in Cornwall and the situations there is worse than Exmoor as there are no big towns like Taunton etc nearby. There are even fewer jobs there believe me and they all have several part time jobs - not want they want to be doing but it pays the bills. They can't even afford their own houses there because of the holiday homes. As for here there it's hard to find anything unless you're a student or a retired person - they don't like to pay the national min round here! Like ti or not if you lose a job via redundancy or whatever reason - there is only one choice that's to get another one, unless you have enough put a way not to. I'm in the area I'm in now not because I want to be but it's where I can support myself -even if I don't like it or the job!
I don't think you quite get it!

Its not a competition.

I don't think it would be a good thing if all permanent inhabitants left the areas I mentioned.
