I am pretty sure the title of this thread has changed from its original form.
As it stands however, the thread, or title of this thread can be easily answered and probably put to bed?

Q: Why have 4x4s?
A: To do the many jobs that 4X4s were designed for.


Similarly...
Why have ironing boards? (To do the ironing on).
Why have milk cartons or bottles? (To hold milk).
Why have jam? (To spread on toast).

etc.. etc... etc...
