The ideas presented have been patented so Claudio thought there was some merit in them. The "Wind up" spring is basically a short term energy storage device to smooth out fluctuations from a reciprocating source, a bit like the flywheel in your cars engine. If he went a bit further he could add one way clutches and extract energy from both the up and down movements almost doubling the power output.
The drawbacks are that there are too many mechanical parts for an energy recovery system that would affect reliability in an hostile environment. Some good ideas there but they probably need more work. Good for seeding other ideas though, he has a good website in multiple languages and he has obviously spent a lot of time on it (copyright dates goe back to 2004), I wish him luck.
