I also suffer from a similar pain as you describe ..but for me its runs under the foot..I found that wearing a foot support especially when out running really does help..as someone else mentioned that it could be related to scyicatica in the back..I suffer from this due to a fall while out horse riding many years ago..Im sure my foot pain that i experience is linked to this..
