Question Field Mouse

Hi,
I am a 60 yr old teaching assistant who loves all forms of nature but I have a problem.
On the day of my mothers funeral I was looking out of my kitchen window and saw a small brown mouse on my bird feeder. After a while he ran up the side of the shed and under the roof. A few days later my husband had a good look in the shed but found no sign. Yesterday (about three weeks later) He saw the mouse sitting IN the bird feeder. He moved the feeder and the mouse ran out through the very small hole of the feeder and down the side of the shed. Today he had the whole shed out but found no sign. Then a short while ago we saw it sitting on the outside of the feeder eating. My husband went up to it and shouted but it took no notice until he moved the feeder, then it ran up the side of the shed and disappeared. I am worried about several things, first I am worried about it breeding and being over run. Secondly I don't want it in the house but mainly do they carry any disease that it could pass on to the birds and will it stop the birds using the feeder.
Also if it is not in the shed where on earth is it?
