River Cottage Gone Fishing looks from the clips like its going to be about showing the wide variety of beautiful creatures in the sea that are shunned by the customer (not the fisherman) over the chip-shop counter - to the devastation of those unlucky few that we like so much.
I think hfw will have achieved something very worthwhile if he manages in his quest to begin the decline of poor treatment of animals that are born for the dinner table. I read through his book 'Meat' a year or so ago and the philosophy of eating less but eating better meat really impressed me as a lone voice of common sense with one foot in the foodie camp and one in the green movement.
Highly recommend it, i have to admit i was never a fan of the man at first, but his achievements have (to my mind) shown the way forward.
Spending a day on the water and maybe taking a few fish, and learning how to make a beautiful meal from them (irrespective of the fact they havent come up from the brine as cod in batter) sounds like a great day to me, more power to his elbow
