Helen, you have no idea just how loud the bang was, a brick hitting the window couldn't have made more noise!
The feeders & table are a good 10 metres from the house so the only conclusion I could come to was that it had been panicked by the Sparrowhawk that makes regular hunting sorties through our garden, either that or it was trying to "ram-raid" the house
