Yes it was very bright. Particularly in the latter part of the night when it actually woke me up, shining through the bedroom windows.
I've found the best approach to Moon photos is to switch the camera to manual focus and use spot metering, and select the smallest aperture you can.
It also helps if you've got a tripod and set the time delay on the camera to give it a chance to steady.
