hi, on reading that story, the £2000 fine for disturbing the bat colony is useless. Anyone redeveloping a site would lose far more if the project was held up for even a few days, so sending out a signal that the penalty will be a couple of thousand is just encouraging others to do the same. The only real deterrent would be jail sentences for directors or something like barring them from local authority/government work. |
