During the miners strike the police stopped them not once but several times and prevented them from driving down the M180 towards town. So the idea is not as laughable as you think.

Point taken and accepted but I still believe the police will not and cannot enforce this. The current terrorism threat in the UK, particuarly around airports, means they should and will be concentrating on that.
