As I said in my e-mail to you. Killdeer, what a start to your birding. Not that many people have ever seen these birds (me included) and here's you, on your first trip to Norfolk, and hey presto. Boy, I'm envious.

John i am quite happy to be corrected by your greater experience.
Having seen some Grey Partridge about an hour earlier i was aware of the size of these.
These were half the size,orange legs,no tail to speak of and walked very hunched over,stripey head and stripey flanks,obviously a game bird of sorts.
I did have a good look through both the books i had and came to the conclusion they were Quail.
If you say they are not here yet then thats fine by me but what was it then.
A bit early for Grey Partridge juveniles i guess.
