John i am quite happy to be corrected by your greater experience.

Having seen some Grey Partridge about an hour earlier i was aware of the size of these.
These were half the size,orange legs,no tail to speak of and walked very hunched over,stripey head and stripey flanks,obviously a game bird of sorts.
I did have a good look through both the books i had and came to the conclusion they were Quail.

If you say they are not here yet then thats fine by me but what was it then.

A bit early for Grey Partridge juveniles i guess.
