i agree with you. but it works both ways....blokes seldom look at me with anything short of undisguised dismay if they meet me when i've been out surveying and i've managed to get muddy jeans and smudges across my face. sigh. i think we're all much vainer than we like to admit!

course it happens when you're not at work as well. i was out walking the dog today and slipped in some mud. so annoying to have to walk all the way home with mud all down my side and across the bridge of my nose.
