I would suspect that you are typing your response inside the square brackets or deleting one of the square brackets
everything inside [qu ote=username] and [/qu ote] taking out the spaces (which i put in to stop the box appearing) will appear in a box whether it was quoted or you wrote it
if you delete one of the square brackets then you wont get the box
