Arrow Free Bat Walk

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Everyone is invited to a free guided bat walk on Tuesday 5th June at Highway Spinney in Braunstone, Leicester.

Want to know more about the fascinating creatures flying through your local spinney at night? As part of the Greening Braunstone project Groundwork Leicester and Leicestershire and the Friends of Highway Spinney would like to invite you to a guided bat walk in Highway Spinney.

Bats are intriguing and often misunderstood animals. Bats are unique and highly specialised creatures with some amazing features. They are able to sleep upside-down, find food using sonar and can slow their heart beat down from 400 beats per minute to 11-25 beats per minute! A guided bat walk is a fantastic way to discover more about these captivating creatures first hand.

The walk will be held on Tuesday 5th June. The evening will begin at 8.45pm at the Braunstone West Social Centre, St.Mary's Avenue, Leicester commencing with a talk from a local bat expert. This will then be followed by a guided walk around Highway Spinney in search of wild bats! Admission onto the walk is free. Donations to the Friends of Highway Spinney will be gratefully received. The Friends of group take care of the spinney to enhance its value to both wildlife and the local community.

For more information on the guided walk or about the Greening Braunstone project please contact Becky Naman on 0116 2221601.

The Greening Braunstone project is funded by the Braunstone Community Association, Local Heritage Initiative and The Veolia Environmental Trust.
