Images have to be of species that could be found in the UK. Ideally, they would have also been taken in the UK although we don't strictly enforce the latter, particularly if the species is rare and not well represented in the gallery.
Images also have to meet a minimum quality level and will, I'm afraid, be rejected if they do not. This probably wasn't the reason yours were rejected, I suspect yours were too small from what you've said.
I should also point out that we ask individuals not to start threads asking why images were rejected. The editors' decisions have to be final and threads discussing the merits of individual images usually become heated in no time at all.

Thank you, Matt, I can see from your response why they were rejected probably, and will make some alterations and try again at some stage. I had thought the 2 species of butterfly and moth I mentioned would make great additions to your collection and they are both included in a book or site about British lepidoptera.
