One of my favourite flowers at this time of year is this Darmera peltata by the pond.
Favourite because it's odd, coming up from the corms before the leaves, and because we don't see it every year, as the flowers are also a favourite of the muntjac. Luckily we've only lost a couple this year. The big rhubarb-like leaves offer good shelter for the pond wildlife and are a great source of winter bugs as they decay. And of nesting material for the blackbirds if I don't clear them promptly in the spring.
