Until the 'harlequin' came along, our two most variable species were the ten- and two-spot ladybirds (
Adalia decempunctata & A. bipunctata as seen in some of the recent postings. There are many other variants which are very rare such as the
purpura form which creates purple, spotless 2-spots. I found a rare one today -
