I'm not at all sure why anyone other than organised target shooters would need a crossbow in the UK.
They are not particularly effective as a 'one shot kill' weapon for hunting as is evident by the amount of news stories over the last few years relating to badly injured animals with a bolt through the head or neck which have not been killed outright and left to suffer.
I am a real softie when it comes to my pet animals, but I am realistic enough to understand that some people enjoy hunting (not hunting with hounds) and usually eat the meat they have killed. Providing they do it cleanly and quickly I can accept it, but this would rarely happen with a crossbow. It strikes me it's just another idiot idea from across the Atlantic...
