I might be wrong but I feel that most kids that have / had a pet have a far greater respect for animals in general. Take this away and kids with little or no exposure to animals have little understanding, and even some fear, which can manifest itself in a nasty way. Surely the idea is not to deprive people of pets but moreso to have them understand better the animals needs and instill a respect prior to taking on the responsibility? |
