If it were me I'd rather return it to Canon myself, than... send it to Scotland, presumably at the same cost, have the seller return it to Canon, have Canon return it to him, then him return to me. That just does not make sense. |
quite true - but had you bought it from jessops say (at about 300 notes more than ebay) then you could walk in and say "
this is knackered, its only a month or so old, i want a new one" and under the sale of goods act they wouldnt have much choice but to exchange it - always assuming that they had one in stock , which they probably wont have if its an uncommon lens

you would then have to wait for them to get another one in which might take nearly as long as a canon repair anyway.
some people prefer this approach but personally i'd rather save 300 notes on the purchase and accept that this means i will have to send it to canon for warranty repairs - you pays your wodge and takes your choice
But like you say Hari's lense is being fixed by canon anyway so why worry ?
incidentally my insurance covers me for accidental damage and breakdowns and will cover the cost of hiring equipment while mine is in for repair - this is generally restricted to pro level insurance but worth a look for anyone who does a lot of photography
