| Re: campervan, retired About 20 years ago, I had the privilege of making several trips to East Germany before reunification (not birding trips, more sort of semi-official "cultural" visits). Each time, we drove almost non-stop from the Channel to the East German border, and hardly saw a single bird. As soon as we got over the border though, the skies suddenly filled with Buzzards, Red and Black Kites, and Harriers (Montagu's, I believe, + the occasional Marsh). Everywhere you looked there were up to a dozen birds in view at any one time. Quite spectacular. They disappeared PDQ if you stopped to look at them though.
I wonder if it's still that good?
