Coypu

Description

Coypu droppings are long,round in cross section and spindly in appearance. Size approx 1.1-7cm in adults, smaller in juveniles.Distinctive shape is a key ID feature.Found scattered along river banks or sometimes floating in water.

Footprint Description

Both feet have 5 digital pads with large rounded claws often visible.Forefoot has a 3 lobed fused interdigital pad, no sign of webbing.Hand outline common.2 proximal pads, fused so giving the appearance of one larger pad. Hind foot has visible webbing, 4 separate interdigital pads and 2 proximal pads, one slightly larger than the other.

Footprint Size

Hind foot - 15x8cm, fore foot - 6x6cm.
