Description: 

A small fungus found growing on rotting or manured straw.

Distribution: 

Common from early Summer till early Autumn.

Habitat: 

On rotting ot manured straw.

Cap: 

Ovoid then conical and expanded, initially whitish with velar covering that flakes off to reveal a dark-grey surface, sulcate to the centre, margin splitting with age.

Flesh: 

Cap flesh fragile, thin, auto-digesting. Stem flesh thin and fragile.

Gills: 

Adnate, crowded, initially cream the vinaceous-brown, finallt black,

Spores: 

Dark-brown

Stem: 

Stout initially, then more slender, swollen at base, white, pruinose at the apex, woolly-fibrous below.
