About Us

Wild About Britain started life in 2003 when the founding trustees noticed that, during the past couple of decades, successive generations of young people were becoming less knowledgeable of our natural environment.

Throughout the 80s and 90s, British wildlife continually lost public interest to many high-energy, mass-marketed and technology-driven past times. Where interest in wildlife and nature still remained, much of it was directed towards the seemingly more glamorous aspects of worldwide nature, rather than UK species.

Volunteer

www.wildaboutbritain.co.uk is a fast-growing website with a comprehensive online directory, newspaper, forums, gallery, events calendars, encyclopaedia and much, much more. The website is produced by volunteers from across the UK who provide a wide variety of essential services that help to constantly develop our web pages. We're currently working on many exciting projects and could always make use of an extra pair of hands. Here are just some the ways that you can get involved:

We're keen to help promote non-profit wildlife and environment websites around the UK, but we also want to control the type and amount of links posted on the site.
With a few conditions attached (see below) we allow quite a lot links on the site via our link pages, forum signatures, directory, forum profile, news etc., but we don't want links to start filling up the forum threads because:

Why does Wild About Britain have adverts?

Wild About Britain is a registered charity and we provide the website free to approximately 2.5 million unique visitors a year.
Unfortunately, the GoogleAds are a bit of a necessary evil. We always try to keep ads to an absolute minimum, but with so many demands for new features, projects, bug fixes etc., we need to pay about £7,000 a year for our servers and software.
