Woodland, grassland and cliffs
Wildlife Description: 
Rowan, silver birch, willows and beech and an understorey of alder, hornbeam, whitebeam and guelder rose. Ground flora includes ground elder, ivy, foxgloves, honeysuckle and red campion, and non-native plants including daffodils, croci, and bluebell. Bird populations include tits, finches, woodpeckers, tree creepers and nuthaches, with mammals such as hedgehogs, foxes, shrews, voles, weasels and squirrels. A wide range of invertebrates include butterflies, hoverflies, dragonflies, and damselflies.
Volunteer: 
Friends of Helsby Quarry were instrumental in reclaiming the site in the 1980's and are now involved in events, and activities including management of the nature reserve.
